Be intentional about finding your way to Make Money & Love Safety
I encourage everyone to begin to Listen, Observe, Verbalize & Engage (LOVE) for ways to make money & Love safety. And whenever someone asks the inevitable question, "How do I find Make money & Love Safety?" I point them into the mirror. Who can you think of that is successful in this area, where you can make money & love safety? It all starts with the person you see in the mirror. Start there and see how you can change that person’s insights. If you know the picture that you are trying to create, it is easier to spot the gaps. You won’t know until you start looking and asking.
By-the-way, no one gets to make money & love safety all alone. We all need team effort to create the knowledge, discover better ways of working safely, capture and share, validate & transfer learning to whichever language that makes work safe. Adopt, adapt, and apply these to the person working on the task. Starting with operation activity, the first step is to use a learning process of Listen, Observe, Verbalize & Engage (LOVE) to reflect on what happened and draw out the lessons learned.
People sometimes change my tagline, ‘Make Money & Love Safety’ to ‘Love Safety & Make Money’ but there is a danger that in doing so we miss some other important attributes of what could be considered as Quality Certainty.
People tend to ask the question ‘How-to?’ and most consultants you engaged provide you the ‘Know-how’ – which you probably can Google.
I strongly believe we need to go beyond asking ‘how-to’ and Know-how’ to Know-why it is important to work safely. Know-what to make it work safely. Know-who inside the mirror. Know-where the work is done. & know-when to make decision to stop something from being carried out unsafely.
Let’s face it, make money & love safety is not new, everyone needs it, but no one wants to do the dirty job. If nothing changes, it's unlikely to impact any companies or organisation's bottom lines.
