What knowledge’s will you take home after watching the movie?

Do women make better thieves? maybe

Here are something I took home after watching the movie which I will use the "3-2-1" learning retaining framework to share with you my 6 pointers

I teach the "3-2-1" learning retaining framework in my workshops and I always have the "3-2-1" learning retaining framework with me wherever I go, traveling, attending seminars and even watching a movie. It is a good way to test the topic in the real world to get feedback and maybe tweak it for the next workshop to make sure the teaching is useful,  relevant & applicable in any situation.

What's 3-2-1:
3 interesting things you learn from the workshop (here is the movie)

2 useful ideas you learn from the workshop

1 idea you can implement after returning to your workplace.

Here are something I took home after watching the movie

3 of the 3-2-1

3.1. Encourage young girls to be the crime

3.2. You don’t need to Shoplifting, take the items and go to customer service counter and complain and if they cannot exchange a new one you just happily take the items home, oops! don't forget to ask the customer service for a bag to carry it out too.

3.3. Women are (F)Focus, (S)Smart (Y*)Youniquely sexy for the crime. (Bonus: I did mention that the word "WOmen" has 2 more letters before men, that is "Wisdom Over-men")

2 of the 3-2-1

2.1. You can lie into people face - Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) she lied through her teeth that she wanted to have a simple life but she didn’t want the simple life.

2.2. She planned the robbery for 5 years, 8 months, and 12 days. (your 4Ds number 5812)  "Thieves got time, you don’t have."....that's FSY...tweetable.

1 of the 3-2-1

1.1 You have to have a quality team. (She has 7 strong women). Put them onto a Quality bus, the correct seat and inspire them to the end. I implemented  this very well during my tenure as a Regional TQM & HSE Manager in my ex-company

On the above point do you know what you are good at? If you put a quality team together & you know what you are good at. You don’t have to do anything, your job is just to inspire them to the end… You just play and be paid.

Bonus Point - The Quality bus on the Unexpected Quality Journey is not the moment that you have arrived, (Quality Life) is the processes (Quality Work), just like in the movie, you get there by being committed to the journey.

Quality Work; Quality Life. The Unexpected Quality Journey   ......A Wild Man (FSY) Unexpected Quality Journey 一个野人出乎意料质量的旅程 ....Yi Ge Ye Ren Chu Hu Yi Liao Zhi Liang De Li Cheng

An Awesome movie, a great story worth watching & learning

Thinking of my mother --- The Humble Sewing-Machine

Thinking of my mother --- The Humble Sewing-Machine

This morning, I was googling for some unusual readings and chance upon this article  “The-singer-sewing-machine-changing-the-world-stitch-by-stitch” that allows me to reminiscent of the past.

A good story makes people to reflect or think.

The Humble Sewing Machine

When I look at the Humble Sewing Machine, it brought back memories of my mother.

She was a cobbler who used the Humble Sewing Machine to make beautiful shoes.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances, we have to move from a carefree kampong lifestyle to restricted HDB apartment.

We have to quickly adapt as we don't have the luxury of space. With limited space, we have to prioritised items to be moved to our new home. Sadly to say that we have to forgo my mother Singer sewing machine and antique marble table that she used to work on.

I managed to salvage one of my mother's cobbling tools which is the hole punching equipment.

Today topics on freelancing, gig, flexiwork environment, work-life balance etc. All these have already happened during my mother lifetime.

She worked from home so that she can look after us. She walked for miles to take the bus to delivers her beautiful completed shoes.

Wow! I can remember because I was a good boy who helped my mom to carry her completed beautifully made shoes to the shophouse in Gay World near Geylang and having to bring new materials home for the next order.

Regarding our kampong attap house...that will be another story for another day.

Although God brought her back to his side when I was just 14 years old,  I still think of her on how she made a living with the Humble Sewing Machine.

This week, I am devoting the next 5 days from Monday to Friday using the Haiku Japanese poem to share my thought of the Humble Sewing Machine.

Haiku is a Japanese poem consists of three lines, with the first and last lines having 5 syllables, and the middle line having 7.

The Humble Sewing Machine was invented in 1846, since then it gives hope & change the life of mothers & daughters all over the world and also impact on the garment manufacturing world & the fashion culture.

The Humble Sewing-Machine evolves through the years from a single sewing machine to automation factories around the world.

BUT, it will soon be replaced by “SewBots” - A sewing robot machine.

So stay tuned to Haiku poem: The "S" of FSY from today to Friday

The final video compilation (done by my 2nd daughter who was working in my department as an interim for 6 months) so awestruck that it brings back the memory of how we work together to build a quality culture that lasts until I left………….Yeeha

PROFILE

I have left the corporate world in 2012, January 31 to do some freelancing and at the same time spending more time with my family.

My 2018 Resolution is to go back to the corporate world to work in the area of Facilitating, Training or Teaching.

Here is a short story of me:

Interestingly, I am a certified trainer in Malaysia but after so many years of facilitating, training and teaching, I am not yet a certified trainer or an Adult Educator in Singapore. Maybe I was from the old school of the ‘Train-The-Trainer’ era that is obsoleted.

With that in mind I enrolled to upgrade myself for the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTAv5) and completed the course, and now I am a certified Adult Educator (Trainer) in Singapore.

Now the old school & the new school merged in me and I am equipped to deliver training and conduct assessment as well as meet the training needs of people in a technological age.

Something a little more about me

With my 33 years of operations experience in the oil & gas industries should be beneficial to your rapidly growing operations.

Having various capacities of Operations, Quality Improvement Process (QIP) & Health Safety & Environment (HSE) within the oil & gas organisation that lead me in achieving my Regional QIP (TQM) & HSE position. During my tenor, I have acquired real & soft skills in all phases of my work life journey.

Though having retired from operations, I am still keen on moving towards my passion in teaching and sharing my lifelong working experiences to our younger generations.

I would greatly appreciate having the opportunity to show you ways that I can assist in your operations achieving your goals of Making Money & Love Safety.

The underlining strategy is to achieve Quality Work; Quality Life for everyone in your organisations

WORKING EXPERIENCE

Here is my long story:

Quality Improvement Process & Health Safety Environment
Regional Manager
FMC Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd

I have extensive experiences in Total Quality Management and training of staffs as well as frequently volunteer my services to both the public and private sectors. I have been with FMC Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd (formerly known as FMC Southeast Asia Pte Ltd) for the last 33 years.
(1979 to January 2012)

Positions held...

In my 33 years employment with FMC Technologies, I held few major positions in the company as Production Supervisor and Senior Cost Estimator. With my many skills and being multi-disciplined, I was promoted in 1993 to champion Total Quality Management which FMC named as Quality Improvement Process (QIP).

To make life more challenging and ensuring that Health Safety Environment (HSE) and QIP go hand-in-hand, I took over the managing role of the Safety Management System (SMS) in 1996.

In QIP and HSE, I am a Mover, Shaker and an Enabler. I plan, implement and conduct company-wide trainings, facilitate processes mapping, Cost of Quality (COQ), and is the caretaker of Total Quality theology and Safety Behaviour-based process. I have increased the awareness of QIP and HSE as an essential element of the organizational culture that ensures all employees are motivated and totally embraced into the concept of Housekeeping, Safety, Health, Environment, Quality and Teamwork.

After many years of promoting QIP and the quality mindset, I took another step to benchmark the QIP concept against the best in the world. The Singapore Quality Class (SQC) award accredited to the SPRING SINGAPORE (formerly PSB) under the highly structured National Best Practises Program, which FMC attained in 1997, provides a roadmap to chart the progress towards a world-class standard of business excellence performance.

I also coordinate the QIP and HSE processes implementation in FMC Technologies’ Pasir Gudang & Gelang Patah Plants in Johor, Malaysia, Santana Plant in Jakarta, Indonesia and also provide assistance to other plants and sales offices in the Asia Pacific and Middle East Regions.

Public Involvement...

I have been constantly networking with the public and private sectors to keep pace with the marketplace in order to enhance the Quality of the company’s products and services. Being actively involved in networking in both the public and private sectors (SPRING SINGAPORE and Singapore Institute of Management), my mission is to promote organizational and managerial effectiveness through the application of the principles of Total Quality Management. I also network with other quality practitioners to promote the application of Total Quality Management concepts among organizations and individuals in Singapore. Since 1993, I have been in the Executive Committee for the Jurong Zone’s Productivity Activist Group of the SPRING SINGAPORE. I am also involved in the Best Practice Networks Group (Manufacturing).

School Involvement...

In the spirit of learning and sharing the QIP’s concept with the community, I collaborated with the Student Work Improvement Teams (WITs) from Jurong Junior College (JJC) and FMC in 1998. The objective is to enhance the students’ skills and learning by applying tools and principles of Quality Management to identify opportunities for improvement in the real world. And for the first time in Singapore, students from the JJC presented the FMC’s project that they had completed in the National QC Convention and they bagged a bronze medal for the school in 1999. FMC continue to collaborate with the student WITs from the JJC in the hope that the students’ new-found knowledge and skills are immediately transferable to the curriculum and will stay with them for life.

Private Sector Involvement...

In response to the considerable interests shown by the management in the philosophy of Total Quality Management and under the arms of Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), I formed the Total Quality Management Group (TQMG). I have served as Secretary in the Executive Committee from 1993 to March 1996. I continue to serve as President from April 1996 to March 1998 then as Vice-President from April 1998 to March 2000. I was again elected to the Presidency from April 2000. During this period of my Presidency I have imitated to include innovation in the quality journey, thus the name change to Innovation & Quality Management (IQM). I have conducted innovation workshops during the SIM’s Interest Group Convention. The group has been involved in business trip studies to Beijing, Shanghai, Malaysia and Vietnam to explore innovation & quality learning. I continue to serve as the President and Vice-President, rotation roles on every 2 years till March 2012.

OTHER TRAININGS/COURSES

·         Completed the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTAv5)
I am a Certified Adult Educator (Trainer) in Singapore.

·         Completed the Train The Trainer in Malaysia
I am a Certified Trainer in Malaysia

·         During my 33 years working in the Oil & Gas industries, I have travelled vastly throughout Asia-Pacific/Middle East attending global meetings & auditing regional sites and many other seminars, workshop/trainings that might not have been mentioned under the education & working experience sections where we can explore further when we meet face to face.

OTHER SKILLS

·         Facilitating, Coaching, Mentoring & Storytelling

A Little Quote about me

I am a prime mover of QIP initiatives in Cost of Quality (COQ) and have been saving FMC Technologies Singapore an average of US$500,000 in COQ on a yearly basis. My extraordinary contribution towards FMC’s long term growth through exceptional creativity, initiative with my perseverance is pushing for the limits of QIP to newer heights.

I have contributed so much on FMC Technologies’ QIP and HSE journeys all those years that I was with them. In fact, as a founding father, I should be very proud of my achievements. The tasks and stresses to go where I have taken FMC’s managers are the most difficult as I consider that FMC Technologies started off with a very low base and as a staff function, I have to push really hard and be thick-skinned enough to get their behaviour changed. FMC Technologies’ Senior Managers still think that when they need to make that change in 1992, I was the right person for the job. Fast forward to 2011, we can see it was indeed the right decision.
