Friday Sharing w/You - 2017 January 20 (Week #03)

Hello Friday Friends, 朋友, Kawan, Dost & PengYiu,

Keep smiling and have a Quality day.

Quick Quotable:
No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path - Buddha

Question for Reflection:
Is my office set up to minimize distractions when I am meeting with someone?

Today Sharing:

Teamy The  Bee

The question on Straits Times  Saturdays October 1, 2016.- Where are these mascots now?

For Teamy the Bee - I still use it till today.

The Bee was the mascot for the national productivity movement in 1982 to inspire a more efficient workforce. I was one of the productivity activists in Jurong. Back in the 80s and 90s, productivity is truly the spirit of the workforce. We did lots of activities sharing, benchmarking, we matched companies together to share and learn each other's processes. I forget which year it was, but during the National Day Parade, I donned the mascot costume and participated.  The busy bee retired in 1999. What happen? Once the bee retired, what happens to the productivity moment, Boh-Ta-Boh-Ti.

But thank Buddha, I still keep the Bee mascot busy.  I created the (A)Awareness (A)Adopt, (A)Adapt (A)Accept (A)Act & (A)Achieve movement in my ex-company. I tweaked and incorporated the Bee into our Quality Improvement Process (QIP) Management System and used the tagline to Quality Work; Quality Life. I love bees because of its characteristics. Bees are busy, they buzz through their day (F)Focus, (S)Smell the correct flowers  &(Y)Youniquely collect pollen & nectar and buzzes their way  back to their nest. What is the bottom line ? "Honey, I am home"

The caterpillar and butterfly are the other animals (Based on Google insects are also animals, am I correct?) that I use in my facilitating and Safety Management System (SMS).

In any business, taglines are important. The 2 taglines that I use for QMS & SMS are Quality Work; Quality Life and for SMS - Make Money; Love Safety........You can copy shamelessly.

The Bee mascot also came with a slogan - "Good, better, best! Never let it rest. Till your good is better and your better, best."

I was intrigued by the above buzzing jingle but seem that it sound not that challenging, so I stubbornly changed the tagline to "Good, Best, Better"

In my Unexpected Quality Journey (UQJ) aka QIP  teaching, you need to leapfrog from Good to become the best and always be better than the best. The folklore stories of the tortoise and the rabbit race -  "slow and steady wins the race" should remain in history. We shouldn't teach to our children that it is okay to be slow.  Anyway, our children are much more intelligent than us. I understand that  good old stories are worth repeating. But, my children never liked my old stories. That's why I write a bit every Friday and keep it for my grandchildren, I write for myself and my grandchildren, and sorry to say, not for you or for my children.  In fact, there are many new versions of this tortoise and the rabbit race folklore stories. They raced again and again. Guess who win in the 4th new version? (there might be more than 4 stories)

Today I teach Speed Wins, Speeding kills. Also, I am not Fast, not Furious, just work or drive Safe & Steady & (Y)You live to 100 years old -       .

I talk so much and at the end of the day, I realized that we still need the tortoise and rabbit type of characteristic in our organization or society. Like my Malay friends in Johor shared this with me over a coffee session (I'm a very lucky man when I met with my friends for coffee they paid, they told me jobless man shouldn't pay, so I stay jobless will you pay for coffee when we meet?) that it is ok!!! Sometimes we are Boleh (Can), occasionally we are Bodoh (Silly) and added-up we become Sotong (Humdrum).

Better stop here......I am not done on the topic of Good, Best, Better. To be continued in another Friday sharing session, I hope you enjoy reading although I write and 'Re-story" it for myself and grandchildren.

Thank you for reading

My FSY’s sharing is unscientifically and some are contributed by wife & children, friends, acquaintances. I write and share things that matter to me. I understand that everyone have their own opinions, views, & thoughts. There are no right or wrong answers. Nothing is true or untrue, most facts and data can be twisted to your favour.

To the authors, contributors and original sources, my thanks and where appropriate my apologies if I forget to quote your names.  If I took a page from your generous sharing and tweaked it into something else, something I hope will spread and the whole purpose is for sharing and sharing is caring.
