Friday Sharing w/You - 2016 December 30 (Week #53)

Hello 朋友, & PengYiu, Friends
A fresh new year is once again upon us. It’s the time to be thankful for the blessings of the past year and to take stock of all our achievements. At the same time, New Year 2017 is a brand new year to
(F)Fresh start, to
(S)Start strong, &
(Y)Yet another chance to Make Money & Love Safety and do everything you want to do.

Quick Quotable
Tomorrow is another blank page. Write something
And make it a 365-page book.

Quick Question
In a couple of days 2017 will be upon you, will you set goals or resolutions?. If so, hang them where you can see them every day of the new year. And be excited for what you can achieve this 2017.
One of my 2-3  goals – write another 52 (F)Friday (S)Sharing with (Y)You stories and share with you.

Today Sharing:
The best work in 2016
I have achieved one of my goals of posting 53 Fridays Sharing w/You (FSY) every Friday without missing a single post. I would like to thank you for reading and my son’s girlfriend for vetting all my articles. I also like to thank many of my friends who took the time to buy me coffee or lunches those chit-chat sessions where I took notes, inspired my stories. Also, not forgetting those writers whose blogs I read and copy shamelessly after tweaking it, and I am paying forward in sharing in my FaceBook and website.

Everyone should write—not just professional writers.
For a professional writer, you might say it’s easy for them because they write for a living. In that case, it’s easy for singers to sing because they sing for a living. But, I believe that everyone can write and sing.

Why did I start writing? Writing provides me ‘ME-time’. It puts me in the present moment, to reflect, to digest what I have read, learn & experience, and think deeply. There are many benefits in writing – Expressing yourself, Critical thinking, enhancing creativity and improving the clarity of thought. Writing makes you (F) Fascinating (S)Smarter (Y)Younqiue.

Coincidentally, the 3 things I loved to practices started with the letter ’W’ – (W)Walking, (W)Writing & (W)Working hard. The bottom-line of working hard, walking and writing have many benefits to your health & wealth it is a form of exercising one mental, physical & economize. Often, you won’t see the results immediately, but the transformation is happening underneath. When you walk in nature, your ideas are crystallizing, you’re reflecting on your emotions, and questioning. Then, you start to take notes and start writing not just to explain, rather, creatively connecting all dots, untangling the mess in our minds, and allowing clear thinking.

The last word of the week before we turn over to 2017 is to ‘Be Calmed’.

I mentioned last week about choosing ‘one-word practice’. That is to choose one word, and ask how you want to tackle the question of, “How can I make more of my strength for this week?”

There are many ways to practice staying calm and the most famous saying is “Keep Calm and Carry on”.
Others similar advice:
Let go.
Take deep breathe.
Loosen up.
Eat slowly.
Enjoy the journey.
Look at the big picture.
Stop demanding perfection of yourself.
Practice patience every day.

I practice staying calm by sleeping tight which most people take it for granted.  A usual question is how many hours do the average working adult need to sleep? And it comes with a usual answer of 6-8 hours.  I learned from my children that it is not the number of hours you needed sleep, it’ just (F)Five (S)Second plus Y)Youniquely 5 minutes more.

Over the years, many articles have emphasized the importance of sleep to increasing your emotional intelligence, helps you to focus better, think clearly, boost creativity, and as well as staying calm.  For most working adults, the irony of sleep is that the last place you want to go is the bed and the only place you want to be at in the morning is also the bed.  When I told people that I slept around 10 pm and wake up around 5 am. Their usual feedback is that an old man habit.  I would disagree and science has proven that when you sleep tight, your brain literally recharges, shuffling through the day’s memories and storing or discarding them so that you wake up alert and calm.

When you have sleep deprivation, your self-control, attention, and memory are all reduced and stressor present.  I understand that we are living in the 24/7 environment with deadlines and stressful projects often make you feel as if you have no time to sleep, but taking the time to get a decent night’s sleep is often the one thing keeping you from getting things under control, be safe and staying calm.

Beside sleeping tight the other thing I practice is to reframe my perspective.

As we are leaving the turbulent, random, ‘unpresident’ (unprecedented) 2016 behind and moving to an uncertain new year. We will again be filled with stress and worry from random events.

If you are a PMET that was retrenched moving into the New Year, you will be still thinking that everything is going wrong or nothing will work out, then you need to reframe the situation. You can’t control your circumstances, but you can control how you respond to them. I learned that many PMET are becoming Grab or Uber drivers. Being a driver might seem to be a little silly, but reframe your perspective. You’ll be surprised by how calm you feel afterward, and how much easier it is to let go of distracting thoughts that otherwise seem to have lodged permanently inside your brain.

Someone said change your thought, change your life. Same to un-framing, reframe your perspective to stay calm.

2016 will be history. What’s Next for 2017?
To make money and don’t love safety is an inhumanity
To make money & love safety is Humanity & Joy to World.

Someone said more walls are going up and bridges are getting burned
&
Hope & Change is out.  Angry & Change is in for 2017

What’s the new norm for 2017?

Renovation will be the new norm because Innovation is out.

Someone said ‘Random’ is the new norm
What’s yours?

What’s New Words for 2017?

‘Trumpformation’

Tell me something I don’t know in 2017
The grass is never greener on the other side, it gets greener on the (F) Focused (S) Side & (Y)You water it.

New Tools for a New Year:
Be a Minimalist

What’s new in my Friday Sharing – No more Quick Question,’ change to ‘Questions for Reflection

Example:
If your company or your department accomplishes only one thing in 2017, what should it be?
What are 2 or 3 things going on in 2017 that could impact your company, your department or even yourself?

My last parting words for 2016
It will be another surprising and a satisfying 2017. You should be able to get through the next 365 days without too much stress. Just click on the autopilot.
Your job is no longer to BS – (B)Be (S)Smartest person in the room, your job is not to solve every problem & not identify every opportunity. In 2017 your job is to Make Money & Love Safety.  And ask yourself:  “What does it mean to be an impact person in your organization where nobody alone is as smart as everybody together.

From Buddha,
Hatred does not cease by hatred at any time. Hatred ceases through love. This is an unalterable law.

From FSY,
For happiness, peace, and joy, if you can please walk over to your neighbor and tell them you love them. I know it is impossible, but did we try?
